Anthropic Opens Seoul Office, Betting Big on Korea's AI Leadership

Anthropic has opened a new Seoul office and announced major partnerships across Korea's AI ecosystem, signaling a long-term commitment to one of Asia's most active AI markets. The move brings Anthropic's Claude AI assistant directly into the operations of some of Korea's largest companies, from Samsung Electronics to LG Group, as well as startups and academic institutions.

Why Is Anthropic Expanding to Korea Now?

Korea ranks among the top dozen countries globally for Claude.ai usage, with particularly strong adoption in technical and creative work. The country is also home to one of Anthropic's most active developer communities, with startups building products for global markets from day one. By establishing a physical presence in Seoul, Anthropic is positioning itself to deepen relationships with enterprises, developers, and researchers who are already using Claude at scale.

"What I see in Korea are teams who understand that innovation and safety are two sides of the same coin," said KiYoung Choi, Representative Director of Korea at Anthropic. "Korean organizations are building with Claude to bring the benefits of AI to millions around the world. Opening an office in Seoul gives a long-term home to our work alongside the people shaping Korean leadership in AI."

Choi brings three decades of experience leading technology businesses across Korea and will lead the Seoul office, which is now hiring across multiple roles.

Which Korean Companies Are Already Using Claude?

The adoption of Claude across Korea's corporate landscape is remarkably broad. Some of the deepest integration is happening among developers and engineering teams, where Claude Code (Anthropic's AI-powered coding assistant) is being deployed at scale.

  • NAVER: The cloud and AI innovation leader recently deployed Claude Code across its entire engineering organization, with thousands of engineers now using the tool to diversify their coding capabilities and maximize productivity.
  • Nexon: The global online game company's engineering teams use Claude Code to write, review, and ship code for live-service games played by millions worldwide.
  • Samsung SDS: Samsung Group's IT services arm is deploying Claude, including Claude Cowork and Claude Code, to employees across Samsung Electronics for knowledge work, agentic workflows, and software development at scale.
  • LG CNS: The IT services arm of LG Group is rolling out Claude to thousands of employees for software development and technology solutions, with plans to deploy it across the entire LG Group.
  • Hanwha Solutions: The energy, chemicals, and advanced materials company is bringing Claude to global employees through AWS Bedrock, meeting strict in-region data-residency and security requirements.

Beyond large enterprises, startups are embedding Claude directly into their products. Channel Corp uses Claude to power Channel Talk, its customer AI platform that resolves inquiries and analyzes service and sales data for over 230,000 companies across Korea, Japan, and the United States.

How Is Anthropic Supporting Developers and Researchers in Korea?

Anthropic is taking a multi-pronged approach to support Korea's AI ecosystem beyond corporate partnerships. The company has made Claude for Startups available in Korea and has hosted Claude Meetups that have drawn hundreds of Korean developers since September 2025.

To deepen ties with academic research, Anthropic will work with the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL), a consortium spanning KAIST, Korea University, Yonsei University, and POSTECH. The partnership will provide Claude access to up to 60 NAIRL-affiliated researchers, supporting work on AI safety, model evaluation, alignment, robustness, and broader frontier AI research.

During the week of the office opening, Anthropic co-hosted Claude Build Day with BASS Ventures, bringing together more than 100 Korean founders and developers with engineering, product, and startup leaders from Anthropic for hands-on building sessions. The company also plans to co-host a Push to Prod hackathon with Replit, Korea Investment Partners, and Korea Investment Accelerator, where startup teams will build with Claude Code and receive mentorship from Anthropic and Replit engineers.

What Role Is Claude Playing in Korea's Nonprofit Sector?

Claude's adoption extends beyond the private sector into social impact work. Good Neighbors Korea, a child rights specialist nonprofit organization, is deploying Claude to help staff analyze program outcomes, navigate social welfare law and internal guidelines, and reduce administrative workload.

"Good Neighbors Korea is exploring how responsible AI transformation can support frontline social workers, protect vulnerable populations, and strengthen service delivery," stated Jeongsun Park, Chief Administrative Officer of Good Neighbors Korea. "As we deploy Claude across our organization, we expect the efficiency gains to free our staff from administrative workload so they can focus more on what matters most: serving vulnerable children and communities."

This deployment reflects a broader trend of AI adoption in sectors where efficiency gains can directly translate to more time spent on mission-critical work.

What Does This Mean for Anthropic's Global Strategy?

The Seoul office opening is part of Anthropic's broader international expansion strategy. By establishing a regional hub in Korea, Anthropic is signaling that it views the country not just as a market for its technology, but as a center of innovation and partnership. Korea's combination of large enterprises with significant AI investments, a thriving startup ecosystem, and world-class research institutions makes it an ideal location for Anthropic to deepen its presence in Asia.

The partnerships announced alongside the office opening demonstrate that Claude has already achieved meaningful adoption across Korea's economy. The next phase involves scaling that adoption, supporting developers and researchers, and ensuring that Korean organizations can leverage Claude's capabilities while meeting local regulatory and security requirements. With the Seoul office now operational and hiring, Anthropic is positioning itself for sustained growth in one of the world's most dynamic AI markets.
