Armenia has officially opened the Firebird AI Factory, a massive computing facility designed to position the country as a regional hub for artificial intelligence research and development. The facility, located in Hrazdan, marks a significant milestone for the nation and represents a direct outcome of the August 2025 Armenia-Azerbaijan peace summit brokered by the United States. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening ceremony on August 8, 2026, exactly one year after the historic peace agreement.

Pashinyan explained that when NVIDIA Vice President Rev Lebaredian and Firebird AI co-founders Razmig Hovaghimian and Alexander Yesayan first proposed building the facility within a year, the timeline seemed unrealistic. However, the peace summit created the conditions necessary for international investment to flow into Armenia. The Prime Minister noted that international credit rating agencies have since revised Armenia's sovereign ratings upward, signaling to global investors that the country is now a reliable place to invest capital.

The Firebird AI Factory represents the largest artificial intelligence computing facility in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, a group of former Soviet republics. The facility is powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing technology and Dell Technologies' high-performance infrastructure, creating a computing environment designed specifically for AI development and deployment.
The scale of the project is substantial. NVIDIA plans to deploy more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell GPUs (graphics processing units, specialized chips that accelerate AI computations) and 300 megawatts of computing capacity in Armenia by the end of 2027. To put this in perspective, GPUs are the workhorses behind training and running large language models, the technology powering systems like ChatGPT. This infrastructure will give developers, startups, enterprises, universities, and government institutions the computational power to build and scale AI applications tailored to Armenian languages, industries, and national priorities.

- Energy Efficiency Focus: The facility is built on the NVIDIA DSX platform, which integrates accelerated computing, networking, power, and cooling as a single codesigned system. This approach allows the factory to run up to 40 percent more GPUs on the same physical footprint compared to traditional setups, maximizing computing output per unit of energy consumed.
- Revenue-Focused Design: The infrastructure is engineered from the ground up to convert raw computing capacity into revenue-generating AI services. By optimizing token production (the basic units of text that AI models process), the facility can extract more value from every megawatt of power capacity.
- Regional AI Capacity: While AI services are available globally, countries increasingly recognize the need to develop and operate AI systems locally. This factory provides Armenia with the capacity to build AI models for its own languages, industries, and strategic priorities rather than relying entirely on foreign AI providers.
NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang lauded the launch in a video message, underscoring the company's commitment to expanding AI infrastructure beyond traditional tech hubs.
The opening ceremony also highlighted Armenia's evolving international relationships. Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev attended the event, reflecting the country's growing diplomatic and economic ties across the region. Pashinyan noted that Armenia-Kazakhstan relations are developing at an accelerating pace, signaling a broader shift in regional politics and economic cooperation.

Both Lebaredian and Hovaghimian represent the Armenian diaspora, but Pashinyan emphasized that their focus is not on sympathy but on concrete partnership and contribution to Armenia's progress. "The Republic of Armenia does not need sympathy," Pashinyan declared. "The Republic of Armenia needs partnership and cooperation".
