The letter followed a recent meeting between SpaceXAI leadership and the House Committee.

Pallone's concerns center on the environmental and infrastructure toll of SpaceXAI's operations. In his letter, he stated: "We need to be putting real, substantial federal guardrails in place to restrict their impacts on monthly power bills, the power grid, and our air and water. If Congress does not act to put sufficient guardrails in place, we may need a moratorium on data centers".

The congressman has requested a comprehensive list of information from SpaceXAI, including:

According to email correspondence reviewed by the Commercial Appeal between Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality officials and engineering firm Trinity Consultants, the Southaven facility (which powers Colossus 2) operates 60 natural gas turbines. A more concerning trade-off emerged in testing: while raw accuracy improved from 35 percent to 52 percent, its hallucination rate more than doubled from 25 percent to 54 percent compared to Grok 4.3. This means the model now states false information with greater confidence than its predecessor, a risk for unsupervised or high-stakes applications. Additionally, xAI has not published a model card documenting safety considerations, unlike Anthropic and OpenAI, which provide such documentation at launch.

The model generates approximately 119 tokens per second with a time-to-first-token near 13.7 seconds.
