Google is expanding Gemini's creative capabilities beyond the main app by bringing video generation directly into Google Photos through a new feature called Video Remix. Who Can Use Video Remix Right Now?

Video Remix is currently available exclusively to paid Google AI subscribers with Google AI Plus, AI Pro, or AI Ultra accounts. The rollout is limited to specific countries including Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.

Google has not yet announced plans to expand Video Remix to free Google Photos users, though the company has indicated that new Pixel 10 Pro purchases include a full year of Google AI Pro at no additional cost, which would grant access to the feature.

While Video Remix delivers impressive results for many use cases, it does have some constraints. The 10-second maximum clip length is the most significant limitation, making it unsuitable for longer videos or more complex editing projects. Additionally, the feature sometimes struggles with videos containing human faces, particularly when it detects minors in the footage. Even when generating remixes of videos with adult faces, the output doesn't always closely match the original subjects.

Google recommends using stable, steady videos for the best results, and notes that Video Remix might not always work as expected or could include unexpected audio in the output.

Video Remix is not intended to replace the full Gemini Omni experience available in the Gemini app. Instead, it serves a complementary purpose for users who want to make quick, creative changes to existing clips without switching between apps. For generating entirely new videos from text descriptions or making more substantial edits, the Gemini app remains the better choice.

The integration of Gemini Omni into Google Photos represents Google's broader strategy of embedding its advanced AI models into everyday tools.
