Google's Gemini Intelligence Is Now Doing Your Thinking for You. Here's What Changes

Google has quietly repositioned its entire AI strategy around Gemini Intelligence, a new umbrella term for its most powerful agentic AI features that can take actions on your behalf. At the Android Show 2026, Google announced that Gemini Intelligence will roll out across Pixel phones, Samsung Galaxy S26 devices, and a brand-new laptop line called Googlebook, arriving this summer and expanding to smartwatches, car systems, and augmented reality headsets throughout the year.

The shift represents Google's answer to Apple Intelligence, but with a crucial difference: instead of just summarizing text or generating images, Gemini Intelligence is designed to be an agent that takes real-world actions. Long-press a grocery list in your notes app, ask Gemini to build a shopping cart, and it will do it. Photograph an event flyer, ask Gemini to find it on Expedia, and it will search for you. You still have to confirm before anything is purchased or booked, but the AI is doing the heavy lifting.

What Exactly Is Gemini Intelligence Doing Right Now?

Gemini Intelligence isn't a single feature; it's a collection of agentic AI capabilities that are spreading across Google's entire ecosystem. The first wave launches this summer on the latest Pixel and Galaxy S26 phones, with three standout features already announced.

  • Rambler: A Gboard upgrade that strips filler words from your voice dictation and handles mid-sentence language switching, useful for people who code-mix between languages in everyday speech.
  • Create My Widget: Lets you generate a home screen widget by describing it in plain language, such as a weekly high-protein meal plan, a flight tracker, or a combined Gmail-and-Calendar trip dashboard.
  • Autofill With Google: Now uses Personal Intelligence to fill out long mobile forms by pulling data from your connected apps, saving you from manually typing the same information repeatedly.

The agentic capabilities go deeper. Gemini in Chrome for Android, arriving in late June, will summarize web pages, generate images using a model called Nano Banana, and auto-browse through tasks like reserving parking from an event ticket. Auto-browse is currently gated to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States.

How to Use Gemini Intelligence Across Your Devices?

  • On Your Phone: Long-press over items in Notes or Photos, ask Gemini to take an action, and confirm before it proceeds. This works for shopping, travel booking, and form-filling tasks.
  • In Your Car: Later this year, Gemini Intelligence reaches Android Auto, allowing you to order DoorDash by voice and use Magic Cue to extract addresses from old text messages and drop them into your replies.
  • On Your Laptop: Googlebook, launching this fall from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, will feature Magic Pointer, which hovers over dates, addresses, and flight numbers in emails to pop up contextual Gemini suggestions.
  • On Your Wrist and in AR: Gemini Intelligence will expand to Wear OS smartwatches, Android XR headsets, and other devices throughout the remainder of 2026.

The underlying operating system for Googlebook, internally codenamed Aluminium, is a fusion of Android and ChromeOS. Google confirmed that Aluminium is only an internal codename and said the actual branding will come later this year. A 16-minute hands-on video of the OS leaked hours before the Android Show, revealing features like Cast My Apps, which lets you run any Android phone app on the laptop screen, and a Quick Access file browser that reaches directly into your phone's storage.

Why Is Google Making This Move Now?

Google's pivot to agentic AI reflects a broader industry trend toward AI systems that don't just answer questions but take actions. The timing matters: as AI models become more capable, the bottleneck shifts from raw intelligence to practical utility. This also positions Google directly against Apple, which launched Apple Intelligence last year with similar-sounding features. However, Google's approach is more action-oriented. Apple Intelligence focuses on on-device processing and privacy; Gemini Intelligence emphasizes agentic capabilities that integrate with Google's services and third-party apps.

The rollout strategy is also telling. By front-loading Gemini Intelligence at the Android Show before Google's I/O developer conference in May, Google signaled that AI is now the centerpiece of its platform strategy. The company also announced Android 17, which includes features like Pause Point, a distraction-blocking tool that forces you to take a 10-second break before opening flagged apps, and verified bank call screening that auto-hangs up on scammers spoofing legitimate numbers.

Android 17 also brings cross-platform improvements that blur the lines between Android and iOS. You can now move from an iPhone to an Android phone wirelessly with your passwords, messages, eSIM, and home screen intact. Quick Share, Android's file-sharing feature, now talks to Apple's AirDrop on Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor phones.
