Jensen Huang Opens NVIDIA's First U.S. AI Supercomputer Factory in Texas, Signaling Massive Reshoring Push
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang joined Wistron Chairman Simon Lin on July 21 to celebrate the grand opening of a $700 million AI supercomputer manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas, signaling a major shift in how the world's most critical AI infrastructure gets built. The 324,000-square-foot plant, called D1, represents the first U.S.-based manufacturing hub for Wistron and marks a turning point in efforts to bring advanced chip assembly and testing back to American soil.
The Fort Worth facility manufactures NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip, which Huang has described as "the most powerful AI supercomputer in the world." The plant will also soon produce NVIDIA's next-generation Vera Rubin Superchip. The facility has already created more than 500 jobs, with plans to expand to 1,000 employees by the end of 2026.
Why Is NVIDIA Building Factories in America?
The opening reflects a broader industry recognition that AI leadership depends not just on technological breakthroughs, but on the ability to manufacture and deliver systems at massive scale. NVIDIA announced plans in 2025 to invest up to $500 billion in U.S. AI infrastructure production over the coming years, working with partners including Wistron, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in Phoenix, Foxconn in Houston, and several optical and semiconductor component makers.

The Fort Worth investment is part of a larger Texas manufacturing boom. The state is becoming a hub for AI infrastructure production, with Foxconn also building an "AI Factory" at AllianceTexas in Fort Worth, and Coherent launching a new facility in Sherman, about 50 miles north of Dallas, to produce the lasers and optical components that connect AI systems together.
How Does Wistron's Smart Factory Optimize Production?
- Digital Twin Technology: The facility uses NVIDIA's Omniverse platform to create 3D digital replicas of the factory during the design and build process, allowing engineers to optimize testing areas and core systems before physical construction.
- AI-Powered Manufacturing: The plant integrates NVIDIA's Nemotron and Cosmos open frontier models, which help predict production workflows and identify efficiency improvements in real time.
- Energy Optimization: Smart planning of production loads and electricity use gives the facility greater control and flexibility over its power consumption, a critical factor as demand for AI infrastructure grows.
Wistron Chairman Simon Lin emphasized that the speed required in the AI era comes with responsibility. "In the AI era, the pressure of speed is also a form of responsibility. We don't just need to build fast; we need to build right," Lin stated.

What Does This Mean for the U.S. AI Supply Chain?
The Fort Worth facility strengthens a critical upstream layer of the AI infrastructure supply chain by expanding domestic capacity to assemble and test NVIDIA AI systems. By establishing manufacturing in the United States, Wistron is building what it calls a "one-stop operational ecosystem" that shortens delivery timelines, reduces customer support cycles, and strengthens supply chain resilience.
NVIDIA estimates that its AI-related operations will support approximately 100,000 jobs across the country, with the company expecting to produce tens of thousands of computing boards per month from the Fort Worth facility as it scales production throughout 2026. The investment reflects a broader industry shift toward nearshoring critical manufacturing to reduce geopolitical risk and meet the explosive demand for AI infrastructure.
