Slack Code Brings AI Agents Like Devin Into Team Conversations, Reshaping How Software Gets Built

Slack has launched Slack Code, a shared workspace feature that brings AI coding agents like Devin, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot directly into team conversations, allowing developers and non-technical staff to collaborate on software projects together. Rather than having individual developers work with AI agents in separate tabs or windows, the new code channels keep conversations, code changes, and project context visible to the entire team, reducing delays and miscommunication.

Why Does Keeping AI Work Visible to Teams Matter?

Until now, much of the collaboration between developers and AI coding agents has happened in isolation. A developer might ask Devin or another agent to write code, review it, and iterate on it privately, then share the results with teammates later. This workflow creates what Slack calls "lost context, delayed reviews, and additional hand-offs." Slack Code eliminates that friction by creating dedicated code channels tied to specific projects, where the agent's work unfolds in real time alongside team discussion.

When a coding agent is tagged in an existing Slack conversation, a code channel is created automatically. Team members can then follow the agent's work, review code differences, inspect live previews, provide feedback, and approve changes before they ship. This transparency helps catch issues earlier and ensures everyone understands why decisions were made.

How to Set Up and Use Slack Code for Your Team

  • Create Code Channels: Tag a coding agent like Devin or Claude Code from any Slack conversation to automatically generate a dedicated code channel for that project or task.
  • Review Code Changes in Context: View the agent's plan, code modifications, and live previews directly in Slack without switching to external tools or terminals.
  • Involve Non-Technical Team Members: Product managers, designers, and other staff can participate in the development process, provide feedback, and approve changes without needing to open a terminal or understand code syntax.
  • Archive and Audit: Once a task is complete, archive the code channel while retaining its full history as an audit record for compliance and documentation purposes.

Slack is building Slack Code with support from major AI coding agent providers. Anthropic, Cognition (the company behind Devin), GitHub, OpenAI, and Vercel are all developing integrations to make their agents compatible with the shared workspace. Slack also plans to open its code-channel APIs to the broader developer community, enabling custom-built agents to participate.

Slack Code reflects a larger shift in how AI is being integrated into enterprise workflows. Much of this growth is being driven by the adoption of agentic AI systems, which can autonomously perform tasks like coding, content creation, and business analysis.

The AI-as-a-Service (AIaaS) market is growing even faster. It was estimated at USD 16.48 billion in 2025 and is predicted to reach USD 294.83 billion by 2035, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 37.78%. Businesses are increasingly adopting cloud-based AI platforms to improve automation, decision-making, and efficiency without investing heavily in their own infrastructure.

Slack is also expanding how agents appear across its platform more broadly. Agent direct messages provide dedicated conversations with clearly identified agents, while a new Agents tab gives users a central place to view agents, check their session statuses, and stop agents when needed. The "Add to Slack" capability lets users bring agents built with platforms including Lovable, Vercel, OpenAI, LangChain, and n8n into their Slack workspace.

The introduction of Slack Code signals a shift toward what Slack calls "multiplayer AI," where humans and artificial intelligence work side by side in the same shared environment. This approach is designed to make software development faster, more transparent, and more inclusive, allowing teams of all skill levels to participate in building and shipping code.
