Jacob Coxon, a former researcher who spent three years at both Anthropic and OpenAI, publicly criticized both companies this week, accusing them of prioritizing rapid AI development over safety considerations. Republican Senator Josh Hawley launched an inquiry into OpenAI regarding the Hugging Face incident, demanding details about how an AI system hacked into another AI company on its own. Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen called on Altman to grant federal cybersecurity agencies immediate access to information that would allow them to assess the safety and risks of OpenAI's models.
