Adding to the competitive landscape, Chinese technology company Baidu's Apollo Go driverless cars have begun testing in Brent through a partnership with Freenow by Lyft, a minicab app company with a strong presence across Europe. Initially, the Apollo Go trial will use human drivers as backup, but the companies hope to accept passengers without human oversight in 2027.

Wayve indicated that Uber would begin offering public journeys in its robotaxis "in the next couple of months" as of June 2026, suggesting services could launch by late summer or early fall. The CoMoUK report recommended that trips in self-driving taxis be "pooled with other passengers" and called for the creation of a "shared fleet" of autonomous vehicles that could be used by multiple people, similar to existing car club models.
