Nvidia's AI server production chain demonstrates the interdependence with crystal clarity. Taiwan's TSMC manufactures the computing chips, while South Korea's SK Hynix or Samsung supplies the memory, and Taiwanese companies assemble the accelerators into server racks with sophisticated cooling systems. Each step depends on the other, creating a supply chain that cannot function without both nations.

The most critical component is High Bandwidth Memory, or HBM, which enables rapid data transfer and storage in AI chips. SK Hynix and Samsung together produce approximately 80 percent of the global supply of HBM. This memory is then integrated with TSMC chips in Taiwan using advanced packaging technologies that only Taiwanese manufacturers have perfected. The combination of Korean memory and Taiwanese processor manufacturing has become one of the key conditions for scaling AI infrastructure.

The partnership is delivering tangible economic benefits. Taiwan ranked first in the world by its share of AI equipment manufacturing, according to an assessment by Jeong Woo Park of Nomura. AI exports supported Taiwan's economy so strongly that it grew by 8.7 percent last year, the highest rate in 15 years. Taiwan's statistical authorities forecast economic expansion of 11.05 percent in 2026, which would be the fastest growth rate in 39 years if accurate.

The economic shift is so pronounced that in 2025, Taiwan surpassed South Korea in GDP per capita for the first time in more than two decades. This reversal reflects how the AI boom has rewarded Taiwan's distributed manufacturing model and TSMC's foundational role in chip production.
